Getting your player ready...

Height: 6 feet.

Weight: 175 pounds.

Age: 18. Born Feb. 8, 1989, in San Jose, Calif.

High school sports: Baseball (center fielder, hit three home runs in districts; .478 BA, seven HRs, 34 RBIs entering Class 5A Championship Series) and football (5A all-state honorable mention wide receiver 2006).

Grade-point average: 3.95.

Class: Senior.

My favorite subject: Statistics, because it’s mathematics that are actually worthwhile to be used in the real world.

My favorite athlete: David Wright – you can tell he just loves playing the game of baseball and gives 100 percent all the time.

My favorite team: Pittsburgh Steelers, they’re just a big physical team and I’ve watched them for a long time with my dad.

What I listen to: Rock.

The best thing on my training table: Qdoba.

Pregame ritual: I just go play.

Time management tip: You have to balance school first, then baseball, then throw in girlfriends. I just focus on what I have to do at that time.

Planned career: Business management; will play baseball at Southern California.

My family: Parents David and Sandra, sister Amy.

I would love to visit: A Super Bowl.

What I like most about high school sports: The camaraderie … you get to know your class, the guys you grew up with.

What I like least about high school sports: The baseball season’s a little short, you get only 19 games. I have a cousin in California who plays 40. And the weather in Colorado doesn’t give you the best opportunity to play.

Preps

Each week, The Denver Post, The Denver Athletic Club and 9News honor male and female student-athletes. At the end of the school year, 10 finalists will be honored at The DAC’s annual athlete of the year banquet, to be held in early June.
