George Geer’s family traces its military legacy back to the Revolutionary War. When he enlisted in the Army at age 27, he became the 12th generation of Geer men stepping forward to serve their country.

“He knew what he was getting into, but he believed in our country, in our freedoms, in what we stand for. It was very important to him. He was proud of his heritage. Every one of his immediate ancestors served in the military. …

“I met the guys he served with and inside 10 minutes you could tell who was his best friends by the type of people they were, by the way they’d come up to you and tell you that they never lost a man on a mission he was on – until the one where he and his sergeant were killed. They were out front, doing their job. That means something.”

– Harold Geer, father
