Authorities arrested two men who allegedly broke into a Denver apartment early today, tied up a man at gunpoint during the home invasion and then led police on a high-speed chase.
The names of the robbery suspects have not been released.
SWAT and canine teams scoured an Adams County neighborhood after one of the suspects ditched the white SUV he was in on the 200 block of West 80th Avenue in Adams County and fled on foot, said John White, Denver police spokesman.
Area schools and businesses were locked down, and authorities warned neighbors in reverse 911 calls to lock their doors and windows, White said.
Denver police received a call of a home invasion in the 4900 block of South Ulster Street, near the Denver Tech Center, at 4:22 a.m., White said.
One of the victims said two suspects took several items from the home while holding the family hostage, he said.
“They fled in an SUV,” White said.
A victim gave a good description, and police soon spotted the SUV. The suspects then led officers on a high-speed chase, he said.
Adams County deputies set up a perimeter near the location where one of the suspects jumped out of the SUV, White said.
Western Hills Elementary School and Global Leadership Academy were locked down hours later because of the search, said Damon Brown, spokesman for Mapleton Public Schools.
The Adam’s County SWAT team is participating in the search, said Sgt. Candy Baker, spokeswoman for the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.
“We are looking for at least one suspect,” she said.
Authorities found the SUV and have it in their possession, she said.
