Girl Talk’s sold-out show May 25 at the Bluebird Theatre was an opportunity for the 21-plus crowd to act like they were in sixth grade again.

The mash-up DJ from Pittsburgh, Penn., is truly an artist, but his current art is silly and beat-heavy and hot and instantly recognizable, in a Top 40 kinda way. After a loud and energetic set by locals Mr. Pacman, Girl Talk took the stage and was instantly surrounded by fans. His reputation preceded him, and the flood of the stage with dancing bodies was a unique sight at the Bluebird.

As he worked his way through a set that was heavy on the hip-hop vocals, Girl Talk, a.k.a. Gregg Gillis, was careful to throw in a number of soft-rock clips, rock riffs and pop angles from his laptop. It was a sweaty dance party that left Gillis, and others, without their shirts. |Ricardo Baca
