Our famous photographer Pamela Mougin moved from Denver to London two years ago – but she keeps coming home. I caught up with her and her dog, Martini, for coffee Wednesday at Peets.

She loves England, she says, still loves her English boyfriend – and she has a new love: horses.

Mougin was commissioned to create some public art for the University Park complex at East Evans Avenue and South Colorado Boulevard. They wanted horses – and horses is what they’ll get, starting with a giant 16-foot-by-8-foot photo, etched into granite.

She has been back in Colorado lately, overseeing the work and taking pics of the horses at Salt Creek Ranch, outside Eagle. These are some beautiful portraits of some beautiful steeds. “Horses, they’re like kids,” she says. “They all have their own expressions and personalities.”

Her new interest in horses is moving Mougin away from celebrity portraits – which is just fine with her. “I was starting to feel like Dr. Mougin, Photoshop surgeon to the stars,” she says.

If you want to see – or buy – pics of the horses, Mougin exhibits them Friday through Sunday at Rocky Mountain Horse Expo at the Eagle River Center in Eagle.

Very cherry

The 17th annual Cherry Creek Arts Festival runs July 6-8. Here’s what to look for:

On July 7, they’ll set off fireworks at dusk during an Opie Gone Bad concert. They just haven’t figured out exactly where yet. Radio stations will play music synchronized to the explosions – and fireworks music will be on the fest’s podcast site, podcast.cherryarts.org.

I’m looking forward to the Australian Sway Poles, which has some Aussies dancing on top of 15-foot poles three times a day.

Action!

Aurora native David May is one of 15 filmmakers still standing in Fox’s “On the Lot.” The winner gets a $1 million development deal with DreamWorks. It’s on at 7 p.m. Mondays on Fox 31 – but it’s kinda dull.

May, 24, now lives in Orange County, Calif., and describes himself on thelot.com as “short, dark and (moderately) handsome.” His favorite line from a movie is “As you wish,” from “The Princess Bride.” And he grew up watching “Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day.” Perfect for an Aurora afternoon.

Boulder acts

Of the summer entertainment series in Colorado, Boulder’s Chautauqua has about the best lineup. Here’s a taste (and you can check it out yourself at chautauqua.com): Madeleine Peyroux, June 19; Indigo Girls, June 20 and 21; Joan Armatrading, June 25; Neville Brothers, July 16; NPR’s “Wait Wait … Don’t Tell Me!” Aug 9; Gordon Lightfoot, Aug. 17; and David Wilcox, Aug. 25.

City spirit

Shawn Wayans is the “top secret” act coming to Comedy Works July 27 and 28 … Thornton firefighter Mike Conner and Boulder nanny Rebecca Johnson are on ABC’s “National Bingo Night” at 8 p.m. Friday … Sez who: “Men and women both care about smell, but women go to the trouble to smell good.” Jeff Foxworthy

Bill Husted’s column appears Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Husted also appears Tuesdays and Fridays on “Good Day Colorado” on Fox 31. You can reach him at 303-954-1486 or bhusted@denverpost.com.
