A whitewater rafting accident in Colorado claimed the life of an Omaha woman over the weekend.

The Chaffee County Coroner’s office said Raquel Stiles drowned after her raft flipped over.

Stiles and her family were on a commercial rafting trip on the Arkansas River in central Colorado when their raft hit a section of rough rapids that includes a 7-foot drop.

Chief deputy coroner Jeff Graf said Stiles was on a raft with her husband, three children and a professional guide.

Raquel Stiles was the only one who could not make it to shore, Graf said. Someone on a nearby private raft pulled Stiles from the river and performed CPR but could not revive her.

Graf says Stiles’ death was the second this year on the river in Chaffee County.
