Castle Rock police said they arrested a 17-year-old girl suspected of sideswiping a young skateboarder with her vehicle Tuesday afternoon and driving away.

The 13-year-old boy struck by the vehicle did not suffer serious injuries but was transported to Skyridge Medical Center, where he was treated and later released, Lt. Tim Gorman said.

About noon, the boy was crossing the intersection of Perry and South streets when he was struck by a northbound Nissan Altima.

The boy stopped at the crosswalk and looked both ways for oncoming traffic, witnesses told police.

Officers said they located the Nissan about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at an apartment complex in the 200 block of South Gilbert Street.

About the same time police were impounding the vehicle, the driver turned herself in at police headquarters, Gorman said.

The identities of the victim and suspect were not released.

The suspect is facing possible charges of leaving the scene of an accident, careless driving resulting in injury and driving without a license, police said.
