A rear-end collision between two semi trucks early this morning killed one of the drivers and closed the westbound lanes of Interstate 70 between Byers and Deer Trail for more than 9 hours.
However, the highway was reopened shortly before noon after one of the burning vehicles was finally extinguished.
According to the Colorado State Patrol, a tractor trailer carrying lumber ran into the rear end of another tractor trailer carrying meat products shortly after 2 a.m. today.
The driver of the lumber truck died at the scene, troopers said. The other driver was not injured.
The lumber truck caught on fire and burned for more than 9 hours, according to the patrol.
The dead driver has been identified as Damion Cooper, 35, of Denver. The uninjured driver was Antoine Williams, 38, of Desoto, Texas.
