Police were investigating two separate shootings late Tuesday that left two bicyclists in critical condition.

The first shooting happened just before 7 p.m. at 3117 W. 26th Ave., in northwest Denver. A man in his early 20s was riding a bicycle when he was shot in the stomach, Denver police Detective John White said.

Police have no description of a suspect or the vehicle involved in the shooting. Investigators are looking into whether the shooting was gang-related, White said.

About an hour later, another man in his early 20s, also sitting on or riding a bicycle at the intersection of East 30th Avenue and Franklin Street, was shot by a suspect in a red sedan, White said.

The victim exchanged words with the shooter prior to the gunshots, White said. No description of the suspect had been determined late Tuesday, White said.

Police had not determined whether the shootings were related. Both victims were being treated at Denver Health Medical Center.
