COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A body discovered over the weekend belongs to a Colorado Springs woman missing since July 11, authorities said Monday.

Police said they searched a field for Jaclyn Funderburg, 22, based on “gut insticts” and found her body Sunday. An autopsy determined she died of multiple injuries.

Police previously identified her former boyfriend as a person of interest in Funderburg’s disappearance. Officers arrested Salvator Esquivel-Castillo, 33, the day after Funderburg disappeared for allegedly choking her and breaking her jaw several weeks ago.

He was being held in the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.

A friend of the woman said she saw Funderburg with the man outside a drugstore on the day she vanished, having what she termed a “verbal and physical argument.”
