A Western Slope woman died Sunday when the pickup she was riding in slammed into the rear end of a car that had stopped on the road because of a dog.

The Colorado State Patrol said Wendy Ann Vincent, 46, of Mack, died at the scene of the crash on Colorado 6 near Loma. Her husband, Coy D. Vincent, was driving the pickup and was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction with injuries.

Troopers said a Nissan Pathfinder carrying seven people stopped on Colorado 6 for a dog shortly after 1 p.m. Sunday. The Vincents’ pickup slammed into the Nissan, then burst into flames.

Three of the Nissan passengers also were transported to St. Mary’s with injuries.

The crash is under investigation, the State Patrol said.
