You can bend your elbow like Beckham – AND get an up-close look at his spicy wife, Posh – without leaving town.
America’s couple of the moment will be here Aug. 26 for a soccer match between David Beckham’s L.A. Galaxy and our own Colorado Rapids. The game starts at 4:05 p.m., then it’s party time at 7. Beckham, wife Victoria and the whole Galaxy team will hit the Omni Interlocken Resort and rage until 10 p.m.
The venue is expected to hold 400 guests, and while 300 will be corporate-sponsor types, 100 will be regular folks, just like you and me. (Happily, some of the hoi polloi will be kids, who’ll score tickets through various Denver charities.)
Denver is one of only seven U.S. cities where Beck/Posh will touch down, so we’ve hit the big time, apparently.
No word on whether Beck/Posh will be accompanied by their Fred and Ethel, a.k.a. TomKat, a.k.a. best friends Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. Deets on the big visit are being closely guarded by a team of PR goalies. But we’ll kick them out to you as soon as we can.
Back to Bono
They call Billy Bunting Billy Bono – but he’ll answer to both.
He’s living the dream Aug. 21 when his band, the U2 tribute gang Under a Blood Red Sky, comes to Red Rocks to play before the screening of the season’s final Film on the Rocks offering, “Wedding Crashers.”
Bunting has been a rabid U2 fan since he saw the band in New Haven, Conn., 24 years ago. Then he watched the video of U2 playing Red Rocks – and from that day it’s been his dream to play the Rocks as a Bono wannabe. He even moved to Denver just to be near Red Rocks.
Finally, his time is here.
“We’ll do an hour of the (‘Blood Red Sky’) show, then there’s an intermission, and then we’ll come back with some newer material,” he says. “It’s going to be so cool for us.”
The Taste
SOS Taste of the Nation’s 20th Anniversary Celebration on Sunday night was a surprise hit – leaving the SRO crowd of 250 filled with flavored vodkas, good food, wine and shared confusion on why so many people were out partying so hard on a school night.
Local bold names were paired with local chefs to cook and serve tables of 10 – and raise $ to feed hungry kids. Tableaus of note: Janet Elway cooking with Jorma Fox from Campo. Molly Hughes cooking it up with the PBR-swilling crew from The Corner Office. The Denver Roller Dolls crawling on the floor with emcee Bill Clarke during a group photo .
