GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—Some investigators have been pulled off the case of a missing mother of three, but a sheriff’s spokeswoman said it remains the department’s top priority.
Paige Birgfeld, 34, was last seen on June 28.
She is described as a devoted mother who sold Pampered Chef products and held other jobs to support her children. Authorities said Birgfeld also ran an escort service, a discovery that came as a surprise to many who knew her.
Sheriff’s spokeswoman Heather Gierhart said Tuesday that Birgfeld “remains the No. 1 focus in investigations” but the number of deputies assigned to the case varies.
“We have to balance that with moving forward with the current caseload that is unrelated to the Birgfeld investigation,” she said.
Grand Junction police and Colorado Bureau of Investigation officers have also returned to their regular duties from the Birgfeld case.
CBI spokesman Lance Clem said state agents can help again if requested.
Birgfeld’s car was found burned and abandoned on July 1 a few miles from her Grand Junction home. A search along a Grand Junction-area highway over the weekend of July 18 turned up several of Birgfeld’s personal belongings, but investigators would not say what they were.
