No. 1 receiver Javon Walker continues to have a spectacular training camp. He and quarterback Jay Cutler hooked up Friday for a 50-yards-plus play for a touchdown.

Walker has been making these plays all camp, although he pulled up with a hamstring tweak late in practice Friday. He didn’t finish the workout as a precaution but he said he was fine.

Guard Ben Hamilton didn’t practice, also as a precaution;Chris Myers worked with the first team. Coach Mike Shanahan said Hamilton won’t miss much time.

Kicker Jason Elam had a couple of field goals go off the goal posts but later finished with a 50-yarder that was good.

The Broncos will not feature a live goal-line period on Saturday, something the team has done the last three years on the Saturday that concludes the first week of camp. It has been scuttled this year after several injuries took place in those previous workouts.

Holdman update

Broncos linebacker Warrick Holdman was released from a local hospital Friday morning. It is not known when he’ll return to practice.

Holdman, a candidate to start at strong side linebacker, gave himself and the team a scare Thursday morning when he crumbled to the grass after tackling running back Mike Bell.

Shanahan said Holdman felt some numbness for 30-40 seconds on the field before being taken to the hospital. Shanahan said Holdman felt some numbness early Friday but was otherwise fine. The official diagnosis was that he had a spinal cord concussion.

Other players competing for the strong side post are Louis Green, Nate Webster and D.D. Lewis. Webster was working with the first team Friday but coaches have also been impressed by Green.

Quote of the day

“It’s a daily struggle, daily grind, especially from my three previous years. I wasn’t a team leader, but luckily I got guys out there like (John) Lynch, Sam Adams, Gerard Warren and Champ (Bailey). You know those guys don’t need to be led when you’ve got guys like that — they help me out.”

— D.J. Williams, who is moving from outside to middle linebacker.
