Cherry Creek has had its issues with dogs this summer – but the soon-to- open French 250 restaurant wants to help you out.

In the wake of pooches being banned from the patios of coffeehouses by the health department – French 250 (in the former Bistro Adde Brewster spot) is offering dog-walking services while you enjoy your dinner.

But it’ll cost you more than a cup of truffle fries.

Poocharella, run by Jacqueline and Ambrose Leahey, will take care of Fido while you dine – for $25 an hour. That’s one way to hike your bill up there.

And the service is available at other restaurants, too.

“We’re concentrating on Cherry Creek, but we’re not going to limit ourselves,” says Jacqueline. Arf!

Tell him

Denver’s famous vet/comedian Kevin Fitzgerald is the guest panelist on NPR’s “Wait Wait … Don’t Tell Me” this week. It’ll be taped Thursday night at Chautauqua, with scorekeeper Carl Kasell.

Panelists often include Paula Poundstone and P.J. O’Rourke, but this week’s crew has not yet been announced.

“I’m going to try to be funny,” said Fitz. “My friends laughed at me when I told them I was going into comedy – but nobody’s laughing now.”

The show airs 1-2 p.m. Saturday and 4-5 p.m. Sunday at KCFR-1340 AM.

Sal

Go to to see a clip from the upcoming movie “Sal.” It’s the story of Sal Aunese, the CU-Boulder quarterback who died in his senior year in 1989 – shortly after he fathered a son, T.C. McCartney, with CU-Boulder coach Bill McCartney’s daughter Kristy McCartney. It was a story everyone seemed to know – but had trouble telling.

Now 18, T.C. graduated from Boulder’s Fairview High and is headed to LSU this fall.

Livin’ Large Productions in NYC and L.A. did not return calls Monday, but the clip says the movie is due in December 2007. Ch. 7’s Steve Gottsegen reports that a news conference is coming Wednesday with some big- name announcements. CU-Boulder says it hasn’t signed off on the movie yet and there’s no news conference. Stay tuned for more deets.

Wild and crazy wedding

Word comes from that Boulder’s bluegrass band Hot Rize played at Steve Martin’s July 28 wedding to Anne Stringfield in Los Angeles. Seems Martin’s a longtime fan of band member Nick Forster, who is also the host of NPR’s etown.

Hot Rize started the ceremony with “Romance Is a Slow Dance,” then played an Irish jig for the processional, and the band’s “Cripple Creek” for the recessional. Martin sat in with the boys after dinner with his banjo for “The Crow” and “Foggy Mountain Breakdown.” Yee-haw.

City spirit

John Tesh is at Arvada’s Faith Bible Chapel all week taping a PBS special … Earls at 1600 Glenarm is always jammed – but its official opening parties are Wednesday (for charity) and Thursday (for fun – VIPs come in Roaring ’20s outfits) … Sez who: “I had a great Earth Day. I drove around with my muffler off, flicking butts out the window; then I hit a deer.” Drew Carey
