Every penny counts, as the volunteers of Cancer League of Colorado will tell every donor they approach. Today, the CLC foundation finds its bank account bulging not with pennies but with a $410,000 gift from QuaLife Wellness Community.
QuaLife officials recently presented two checks – $135,000 from the QuaLife McMurtry Endowment Fund and the $275,000 that had created the Paul Hamilton Fund – to CLC Foundation President Karen White. The money will be used to support cancer-related service programs in Colorado.
“QuaLife and Cancer League have worked closely together since the inception of QuaLife,” said Cancer League President Barb Reece. “We have similar goals and missions, and these funds will enable us to continue to serve those in need who are affected by cancer. I know I speak for all of us when I express our sincere appreciation to the QuaLife Wellness Community for its unprecedented demonstration of confidence in the cause and commitment of Cancer League of Colorado.”
Celebrating choices
Hundreds of Colorado pro-choice legislators, activists, philanthropists and community leaders gathered at the Denver Marriott City Center for NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado’s 25th Choice Celebration. The dinner event also paid tribute to state Sen. Betty Boyd of Lakewood, Meg Froelich and Natasha Lamoreaux.
Boyd, a Democrat, sponsored Senate Bill 60, which requires hospitals to inform sexual assault survivors of emergency contraception options available to them and is the first pro-choice legislation to be signed into Colorado law in nearly a decade. Froelich, a retiring member of the NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado board, and Lamoreaux, who has concluded her term as president of NARAL Pro-Choice Auraria, were recognized for their years of service.
“Each of them exemplifies the qualities necessary to build and support the social movements needed to protect our basic civil liberties and rights, including leadership and vision, courage and commitment, and persistence and patience,” said Kathryn Wittneben, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado. “We’re grateful for their efforts to support reproductive rights and health care in Colorado.”
In keeping with the evening’s theme, “Celebrating Choice is Always in Style,” local artists and fashion designers crafted 65 statuettes to showcase their commitment to reproductive rights and health care.
NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado is the political action arm of the pro-choice movement in Colorado. It has some 30,000 supporters statewide.
