Greeley police shot and killed a known gang member early this morning.
Jimmy “Psycho” Trevino, 22, was shot to death after police received a call from his family about a disturbance.
Police responded to an apartment complex in the 2500 block of First Avenue only to find that Trevino had fled. While talking to Veronica Trevino, who police said was either his wife or estranged wife, police spotted Trevino nearby.
They gave chase on foot and shot Trevino at 3:19 a.m., said Jennifer Finch, spokeswoman for the Weld County district attorney’s office, which is investigating the shooting.
Finch could not say whether Trevino was armed when he was killed.
Greeley Police Chief Jerry Garner said Trevino was a known member of the South Side Sorenos, whose name he had tattooed on his face. Garner said Trevino was on parole after recently being released from prison. Garner said Trevino had cut off an electronic monitoring device from his ankle.
Trevino had a record of assault and two escapes from prison, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
Finch said the DA’s office should complete its shooting investigation in about a month. The two officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard policy.
