Memo to Bronco Nation: You can come up for air now.

Travis Henry’s 2007 season isn’t finished before it ever got started.

Sunday’s MRI of Henry’s left knee showed a sprain, not a ligament tear, meaning Henry figures to be back on the field in a matter of a few weeks, if not several days. Good thing. Given how good Henry had looked in training camp, and how heavily the Broncos were leaning on him, there would have been no overstating how much his loss would have meant.

This is the man who, in the words of Broncos GM Ted Sundquist, “is going to bring the authority back to our running game.”

Henry, at 230 pounds, is different from all the other Broncos backs. He could be the perfect blend of breakaway ability and durability. If he returns before the season opener, he shouldn’t miss a beat.

If not? Then Mike Bell or Cecil Sapp would have to plug a gaping hole. Luckily for the Broncos, that doesn’t appear to be the most likely scenario.

Gasp.
