Neiman Marcus celebrates 100 years in the luxe biz in September – and on Sept. 10 it finally wants to bury the cookie monster.

It’s one of the oldest urban legends, making the rounds for more than 50 years. The story goes that a woman and her daughter had salad and a cookie at Neiman Marcus in Dallas and thought the cookie so excellent they asked for the recipe. The waitress said no, then the woman asked if she could buy the recipe. Yes, said the waitress, for two-fifty. When her credit-card bill came, the woman discovered she was charged $250 for the recipe! And Neiman Marcus made her pay! So she sent out the recipe to everyone to get back at the store.

It really took off once the Internet entered our lives.

And of course, it’s not true.

“It’s a great story, and it just goes on and on and on,” says Neiman Marcus spokeswoman Nancy Sagar. “It never stops.”

Neiman Marcus didn’t even have a cookie recipe until recently – when it developed one just to quell the urban legend. It’s available at

/cookie. And the store will hand out the recipe and free cookies on Sept. 10.

Nice to meet you

Denver’s boldest names come together Wednesday for Blacktie-Colorado’s “Have You Met” party. “Have You Met” is a regular feature at the charity-chronicling website, blacktie-colorado.com, profiling Denver do-gooders.

The party hopes to gather about 400 folks to rub their well-heeled elbows at the Cable Center. The roster of those profiled includes Carl and Lisa Williams, Georgia and Walt Imhoff, Gov. Bill Ritter, Eddie and Susan Robinson, Mayor John Hickenlooper, Cleo Parker Robinson, Mike Shaw, Janet Elway, Joanne Davidson, Holly Kylberg, Dean Prina, Lisa Schomp, Hank Brown, Jared Polis, Wendy Aiello, Jamie Angelich, Tamara Banks, Patty Calhoun, Lannie Garrett. Now, how many show up is a different matter.

This year Blacktie is adding a silent auction – that includes a part in one of Leslie Fishbein’s Kacey Fine Furniture commercials. Priceless!

Frankly speaking

Mizuna’s Frank Bonanno is on CBS News’ “The Saturday Early Show” this weekend, as the Chef on a Shoestring, cooking a dinner for four for $40.

He’s one of the chefs at the Colorado Cooks for James Beard dinner Sept. 28.

He also has a new pizza/salumi project called Osteria Marco set to open downtown this fall, deets forthcoming. Think of Mario Batali’s Pizzeria Mozza in LA.
