CANON CITY, Colo.—Three people were arrested and four others were being sought after counterfeit bills produced in Canon City were found in five Colorado counties.
Police said the bogus $20, $50 and $100 bills were printed on a rented computer and printer.
The bills turned up in Fremont County, which surrounds Canon City, and in Bent, Las Animas, Pueblo and Teller counties.
Officers in Lakin and Garden City, Kan., also reported that fake bills surfaced there, but it was not immediately clear whether they were from the same batch.
Lashonda Joy Mankins, 31, Richard Henry William Jones, 28, and Allen Batterton, 25, have been arrested on suspicion of crimes related to the Colorado Organized Crime Act.
They were being held in the Fremont County jail on $50,000 bail each.
Authorities said they were seeking four other women, ages 21 to 29, in connection with the case.
