TRINIDAD, Colo.—The ninth annual Trinidad Blues Festival drew thousands to the border town, filling every available room and some as far away as Walsenburg, 35 miles to the north

The event, sponsored by Trinidad and Las Animas Chamber of Commerce, averages 5,000 a year, the Pueblo Chieftain reported.

Festival founder Neil Sexton moved to New York earlier this year but came back for the Saturday event.

“I’ll always be involved in this festival,” he said. “We’ll be ‘daddio’ing out here for as long as they let us.”

His original goal for the festival, he said, was to raise money for local charities.

“True to our original mission, Blues Fest supports some very worthy nonprofits, and is a big economic boost to the community. It brings a high level of nationally prominent musicians to Southeastern Colorado. And best of all, it’s a reason to throw a big party,” he said.

Some of the charities who will benefit this year are Noah’s Ark Animal Rescue and the Southern Colorado Repertoire Theatre.
