Platteville – Aurora Organic Dairy has reached a consent agreement with the Department of Agriculture stemming from alleged violations of standards for organic production.
The dairy agreed to remove certain animals from its organic herd and cease to apply the organic label to certain milk. In addition, a USDA unit will increase scrutiny over Aurora’s operations during a one-year probationary review period.
“Through this consent agreement, consumers can be assured that milk labeled as organic in the supermarket is indeed organic,” said Bruce I. Knight, under- secretary for marketing and regulatory programs.
