LAKEWOOD, Colo.—A 5-year-old boy drowned Sunday at a popular swim beach at Bear Creek Lake Park.

West Metro Fire Rescue spokeswoman Micki Trost told The Denver Post that the parents of the boy had called 911 to report their son missing at Big Soda Lake, one of three lakes at the park.

Lakewood police spokeswoman Stacie Oulton told the paper a citizen helping with the search found the boy in the water about 20 feet from shore.

Paramedics performed CPR on the child, who police said was later pronounced dead at Swedish Hospital.

Oulton said it could be days before police decide if any charges should be filed.
