Getting your player ready...

The Broncos lost their season opener last year and didn’t make the playoffs.

Coincidence? No, no, never, never, uh-uh-uh.

Well, almost never. The Broncos have lost their season-opener 17 times in franchise history and made the playoffs twice in those seasons. Other than that, Sunday’s opener at Buffalo is just another glorified scrimmage like all those others the Broncos have played in the past month.

Truth is, a victory over the Bills and a lot of the lingering question marks would go away — those in the minds of the Denver media, Broncos fans and, yes, the players and coaches.

Make no doubt, when you sign Simeon Rice a week before the season opener, you’ve got question marks about your team.

And what if the Broncos lose? Then the question marks stay. In fact, there would be more of them than ever.

So are they going to win? Since that’s the biggest question mark of all, I’ll have to get back to you on that one.
