The Weld County district attorney today filed several charges against a 15-year-old Greeley youth for allegedly striking and killing a 9-year-old girl while driving his father’s Dodge pickup on Aug. 27.

Carlos Manzo was charged with vehicular homicide, vehicular assault, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident after causing death, leaving the scene after serious bodily injury and two counts of second-degree assault with a deadly weapon.

If convicted, Manzo faces 10 to 41 years in prison.

The accident occurred a week ago when Manzo was driving his father’s pickup truck and allegedly struck Jasmine Hernandez, 9, and her cousin, Ibeth Rodriguez, 8. The two girls were riding a bike and a scooter in the street when they were hit. Hernandez died, and Rodriguez was injured.

Manzo is due in Weld County District Court on Wednesday.
