Steamboat Springs will be home to that rarely approved combination of drinking and driving this weekend as the Steamboat Brewers’ Festival coincides with the town’s annual race stop on the Rally America National Championship Series. Featuring top dirt-road rally racing stars such as Travis Pastrana and local 2007 X Games champion Tanner Foust, the free Rally Colorado event (formerly known as the Colorado Cog Rally) rolls into town Friday through Sunday with 13 stages spread out on closed county roads near Steamboat and Hayden. Between roadside viewing opportunities to catch the two-person teams charging through Routt County at “Dukes of Hazzard” speed, spectators will have a chance to check out the rally cars at the Steamboat Springs Rodeo Grounds downtown and at a postrace party at the Old Town Pub on Saturday at 6:15 p.m.

Beer lovers can get a jump on the celebration from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday as 18 Colorado breweries offer samples of their handcrafted beers at the base of the Steamboat Ski Area. The festival features live entertainment by White Water Ramble and Jebus along with root beer tasting for the kids. Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door and include a souvenir glass and six 5-ounce tasting tokens. VIP tickets are available for $75.
