The Colorado National Monument near Fruita will drop its entrance fees and host two public events on Sept. 29 in honor of National Public Lands Day.
A section of the 23-mile Rim Rock Drive will be closed to vehicles from 8 a.m. to noon to allow visitors to walk, run or bicycle in the monument, 32 square miles of canyons, plateaus and towers made from the red and white sandstone that also forms Bryce Canyon and Arches National Park in Utah.
At noon that day, Rim Rock Drive will be rededicated after a two-year, road-construction project.
