PITTSBURGH—The Pittsburgh City Council will weigh the mayor’s plan to hold an auction for companies that want to bid on a contract to provide electricity to the city and its water authority.
Mayor Luke Ravenstahl and other city officials hope the auction will save the city at least $500,000.
Three firms have submitted proposals to conduct the auction: Co-exprise Inc. of Pine Township; Comperio Energy of Upper St. Clair; and EnergyWindow, a Boulder, Colo.-based company with operations in Ohio.
City Council must decide Wednesday whether to hold the auction.
The city has budgeted $5 million this year to buy 60 million kilowatt-hours and hopes to hold the auction in October.
