Democrats Hillary Rodham Clinton, Barack Obama and John Edwards are the finalists for a crucial endorsement from the Service Employees International Union, one of organized labor’s most powerful unions.

In winnowing the field Wednesday, the union asked the three candidates to make their appeals at the Change to Win conference in Chicago next week, where they’ll be given another chance to persuade SEIU to back their candidacy.

Elizabeth Edwards raps Clinton

Elizabeth Edwards accused Democratic candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton of copying the health care plan outlined more than seven months ago by her husband, John.

“Does Mrs. Clinton’s plan seem very familiar to you?” Edwards said in an interview. “Mrs. Clinton has … unveiled a health care plan that is in every material respect just like John’s.”

She also said Clinton shouldn’t raise money from people through a program that allows donors to rub elbows with key members of Congress.

“What she’s saying is she’s willing to sell special access to the government,” she said. “Just send a check.”
