Lufthansa German Airlines will cut back its Denver-Munich flight schedule from daily flights to five days per week for the winter.
The lighter schedule starts Oct. 28, with flights every day except Mondays and Fridays.
That change could affect schedules for business travelers using the route who want to start or end their work trips on those days.
The Munich route was considered a big win for Denver. Lufthansa started flying daily between Denver and Munich on March 31, marking Denver’s third nonstop daily flight to Europe. Lufthansa also flies daily from Denver to Frankfurt, while British Airways flies from Denver to London.
Denver economic development officials had hoped Lufthansa could stick to a daily schedule for the Munich flight. But Lufthansa spokeswoman Jennifer Urbaniak has said it’s not unusual for the airline to seasonally reduce frequency, particularly on new routes.
Denver International Airport, the state and the Metro Denver Economic Development Corp. provided a $2 million incentive package for Lufthansa to start the Munich route, which is expected to bring in more than 30,000 international visitors a year and generate $108 million in annual economic impact for the region. The incentive amount can be prorated for reduced frequency of the flight for the winter.
