Arapahoe County authorities are holding a man on suspicion of attempted murder for allegedly invading the home of an acquaintance and shooting him twice.
Arapahoe County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Jason Fred Phouk, 18, at his Aurora home Tuesday.
Phouk allegedly entered the victim’s home early Sunday in the 5500 block of South Wenatchee Street in Aurora, where the victim and three other members of his family were sleeping, said Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson.
The victim’s parents and a third family member woke when they heard gunshots.
“It is pretty brazen for this individual to go into the victim’s home and shoot him with his family there,” Grayson said. “He knew the victim and had come in the home previously. He probably came in the unlocked home.”
The 17-year-old victim, who wasn’t identified because he is a juvenile, was hit in his left hand and right thigh.
The reason for the shooting is not yet known, and the investigation continues, Robinson said.
Arapahoe County deputies went to the house after shots were reported at about 4:07 a.m. They were told the victim had been driven to the hospital by a family member.
Witnesses provided information that led to Phouk. He had just left his apartment at 254 N. Kenton St. as officers were approaching but went back inside after spotting them, police said.
He remained in the apartment for about 40 minutes, refusing to come out. He finally left the home and was taken to the Arapahoe County Detention Facility, where he remains in lieu of $500,000 bail.
Phouk is due in Arapahoe County District Court on Monday.
