Is a Broncos football primer sexist?
No way, says team mouthpiece Steve Harbula. It’s open to anyone, but mostly women will show up at 4 p.m. today.
About 300 women, in fact, paid $85 to attend the six-hour NFL 101 class. This year is the seventh annual lesson, a tutorial from coaches and players on terms and strategies, a tour of the stadium, hors d’oeuvres and an “equipment demonstration.”
It’s the demo that gets the students going. A player comes out and models the uniform. This year the honor goes to Brandon Marshall – following in the proud cleats of former models Lionel Dalton, George Foster, Kevin Kasper and Bradlee Van Pelt.

Eats! Locanda del Borgo (winner of Hard to Remember Restaurant Name Contest 2007) has opened at Third and Holly, in the former Hillcrest Inn space. Chef/owner Giancarlo Macchiarella (formerly with Farfalla in Aspen and Tavolaccio in Edwards) gave the space a total redo, and it looks great. Sergio Acampora is a familiar face at the door. Borgo is an immediate hit – with no opening hype. Try the rolled pizza dough filled with arugula and fresh mozzarella, cannellini bean soup with small pasta, the simple oven-roasted chicken with spring vegetables, and the pizzas.
Former Denver chef Mary Clark (Tante Louise and Bluepoint Bakery) is the Clark in Fisher Clark Urban Delicatessen, coming soon to Bonnie Brae in the old Esquire Market space. A flier touts fresh baked goods, take-away dinners, and “amazing sandwiches and salads.”
Lola shut down temporarily Sept. 27 – for a “mechanical failure.” We hear it’s an emergency grease-trap problem – but it should be open by tonight or Saturday, says owner David Query.
Sean Yontz and Jesse Morreale’s Chama restaurant in Belmar shut down Monday.
Say “cheesesteak!” Ah, the pleasures of the Philly Cheesesteak. Meaty and cheesy and gooey and gross – just like Philadelphians. But you gotta love ’em, this week more than ever.
So with the Phillies in town, where do you find the best Philly Cheesesteaks? I asked our esteemed restaurant critic, Tucker Shaw, who aimed me toward Large Marge’s, Pat’s Philly, Wash Park Grille, Steuben’s and the Philadelphia Filly, the food wagon at Broadway and 16th Street Mall (closed weekends).
The Gabby Gourmet concurs – and adds Denver Ted’s, Taste of Philly, Santoro’s and Old Chicago.
