Deli Italia

Frankly, we’ve had it with fast food drive-through submarine sandwiches. They don’t taste like much, and they’ve got no soul. Buck the trend and pick up your next hero sandwich at one of Denver’s many neighborhood delis, like the excellent Deli Italia in Lakewood. $6.99 buys you an 8-inch length of soft white bread stuffed with spicy-herby porchetta roast pork. Grab a ball of fresh mozzarella (made daily) to take home. 1990 Wadsworth Blvd., 303-238-7815. Tucker Shaw

Great American Beer Festival

Starting tomorrow, and through Saturday, the town turns into one giant party as the 26th Great American Beer Festival taps its kegs. More than 40,000 imbibers will select from 1,800 beers from 474 American breweries at the Colorado Convention Center. New this year: pumpkin beer, gluten-free beer and American-style sour ale. For tickets, schedule information and a list of breweries go to . Kristen Browning-Blas
