Ritter to tour Piñon Canyon area by horseback
Gov. Bill Ritter plans to get a view of the land around Piñon Canyon by horseback.
Today, Ritter will tour the ranchland that could be included in the Army’s proposed expansion of its southeastern Colorado training site. He was invited by Wes McKinley, a state representative and rancher from Walsh who opposes using eminent domain to expand the training site.
This year, Ritter signed a law aimed at preventing the Army from using its power to force landowners to sell even though he admitted he wasn’t sure if the state can do that. The Army has said it has been contacted by people willing to sell their land but hasn’t said how many or how much property they have offered.
