PARKER, Colo.—Two students at Lutheran High School had their right hands partially severed during a tug-of-war at a pep rally, a police official said.
“It was purely an accident,” said Lt. Sam Realmuto, spokesman for Parker police. “We have no reason to think otherwise. It was a tragic accident at the pep rally.”
The pep rally in the school’s gym Friday was in advance of Saturday’s homecoming game.
Senior members of the football team were competing against junior members in the game where teams prove their strength by tugging on opposite ends of rope.
Both injured students were juniors.
It was unclear how the students were injured. Their names have not been released.
