Getting your player ready...

Need a last-minute Halloween costume, but want a change from the thrift stores you normally haunt?

Head to Colorado Springs, where the military and sports communities pour generous donations of items perfect for chilly Colorado trick-or- treating.

Amid the camouflage and outdoor gear, look for surprises that range from leftover Mardi Gras parade floats to antique wringer-washing machines. It’s up to you to work out the Irish washerwoman outfit, and how to haul that heavy washer on your loot route.

Getting there: Most of these stores are within a few minutes of downtown Colorado Springs, between exits 149 and 143 from I-25.
