SALIDA, Colo.—Eleven Civil Air Patrol aircraft searching for a missing glider Saturday spotted something near Salida that could be the missing aircraft, a spokesman said.
“We’re 98 percent sure we’ve located the missing glider,” Civil Air Patrol spokesman Steve Hamilton said. He said a ground crew was in the area, but he was not sure they would be able to reach the plane Saturday night.
The plan was to launch aircraft to the site at first light Sunday morning, Hamilton said.
It was unclear whether the pilot of the single-seat glider survived.
Hamilton said the glider was released Friday afternoon near Salida in mountainous terrain.
The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed the glider was reported missing.
FAA records indicated the glider was registered to a Stewart Kissel in Vail. A phone number listed for Kissel was not answered Saturday.
