LAKEWOOD, Colo.—An off-duty Arapahoe County sheriff’s deputy fatally shot a man after an argument with two men at an off-ramp on U.S. 6.
The shooting happened around 10:15 p.m. Friday. The deputy pulled next to a pickup truck and exchanged words with two men inside, police spokesman Steve Davis said.
All three exited their vehicles, and a fist fight broke out, Davis said. It was unclear what started the fight.
Police said the deputy, 49-year-old Daniel Montana Jr., then shot David Rossiter, who died at a hospital.
Pickup driver Michael Hunter, 24, was not hurt, Davis said. He was taken into custody for investigation of possible driving under the influence, he said.
Montana was treated for facial injuries at a hospital. His blood was also taken to determine whether he was intoxicated, Davis said.
Sheriff’s officials declined to comment.
