A man being driven home from a topless bar tried to steal the truck he was in by stabbing the driver, leading to a police standoff that shut down two schools in Longmont, police said.

The incident happened early Monday, and Longmont police arrested two men identified as Scott Lorman, 23, and Carlos Isidro Cordova, 22.

Lorman and Cordova were taken into custody after a standoff at 1501 Northwestern Road in Longmont.

Two nearby schools, Longmont Estates Elementary School, 1601 Northwestern Road, and Westview Middle School, 1651 Airport Road, were shut down before classes as a security precaution, said John Poynton, a St. Vrain Valley District spokesman.

Both schools have about 350 students.

Police received a call at about 1:25 a.m. from someone at Longmont United Hospital that a stabbing victim was being treated in its emergency room, said Longmont Police Commander Craig Earhart.

The emergency room victim was the driver of a pickup truck who had been stabbed by a passenger he was driving home from the Bus Stop, a Boulder strip club.

Earhart described the driver and suspect as “acquaintances.”

The unidentified victim, Lorman and three other people were in the pickup when it stopped at Cornell Drive and Northwestern Street in Longmont. Police said Lorman tried to steal the truck, slashing the driver’s arm and ear with a knife.

Lorman fled the scene on foot, and Longmont officers and deputies with the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office used dogs to track him to a home on Northwestern Road.

After the home was surrounded, Lorman eventually surrendered to police. After Lorman’s arrest, investigators learned that Cordova, who is wanted on warrants out of Boulder and Broomfield counties, was inside, police said.

After getting a search warrant, SWAT team members stormed the home and arrested Cordova without further incident.

Investigators found the knife used in the attack at the home, Earhart said.

Lorman faces possible charges of attempted aggravated robbery, assault and violation of a bond condition.

Cordova was held on outstanding warrants unrelated to the stabbing and standoff, including assault, drug distribution, theft and domestic violence, police said.

The stabbing victim was treated for his injuries and released, police said.
