BRIGHTON — Voters on Tuesday night rejected a boost in the city sales tax to finance the construction of a minor-league baseball stadium.
Brighton Issue 2A lost by a wide margin – 65 percent to 35 percent – sinking the city’s plan to host a minor-league franchise in the northern metro area.
The city was asking voters to approve an increase in the sales tax of 20 cents on every $100 purchase.
The proposed stadium also would have been used for concerts, boxing, festivals, fireworks shows, corporate outings and high school sports.
Brighton signed a letter of intent to pay $1.86 million for the parcel, contingent on voters approving the sales tax hike.
