A 24-year-old Aurora motorist lost control of his vehicle early this morning, and it slammed through a wooden fence and then the brick wall of a home, police said.
The accident happened at about 3:15 a.m. in the 11200 block of East Colorado Drive, a police said.
A family of four in the home was awakened by the crash and described it as an “explosion,” according to an Aurora Fire Department press release.
The vehicle slammed through a master bedroom wall and just missed a bed’s headboard, fire officials said.
No one in the home was injured.
Police identified the driver as Jonathan Webb.
Webb was driving a black 2001 BMW sport utility vehicle, police said. The vehicle tipped over and came to rest on the driver’s side, near the back patio of the home. Webb was cut out of the SUV by firefighters and taken to Medical Center of Aurora for a possible broken ankle, police said.
Details on his condition were not available.
The accident is being investigated by the Aurora Police Department. Police suspect alcohol and excessive speed as factors in the crash and are awaiting the return of toxicology reports.
Officials with the city’s building department have assessed the damage, and the home has been boarded up and secured.
