COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Two players from BYU and two from TCU won Mountain West Conference on honors on Monday.

TCU tailback Joseph Turner and BYU running back Harvey Unga shared the offense award. TCU linebacker Jason Phillips won the defensive award and BYU place-kicker Mitch Payne won the special teams honor.

Turner had a career-best 226 yards and scored four touchdowns on 33 carries in TCU’s 45-33 victory over San Diego State. The sophomore has played just three collegiate games but has run for 100-plus yards in two of them. His 226 rushing yards were the most for TCU since 2002.

Unga became the first BYU freshman to rush for at least 1,000 yards in a single season when he carried for 141 yards and a touchdown in the Cougars’ 17-10 victory over Utah. He also had one reception for 27 yards. His touchdown came with 38 seconds left and gave BYU its second straight MWC title.

Phillips had a career-high 13 tackles, 10 of them solo, and broke up two passes in the Horned Frogs’ victory over the Aztecs. TCU’s defense limited SDSU to just four third-down conversions on 17 attempts.

Payne hit field goals of 22, 23 and 35 yards in the Cougars’ win over the Utes.
