Of course it isn’t possible to learn all the lessons the mountains have to offer in a day. But the Colorado Mountain Club’s third annual Mountain Fest is a great place to start.

The full day of mountain recreation skills classes and conservation clinics takes place Saturday at CMC’s American Mountaineering Center (710 10th St.) in Golden. Designed for all levels of mountain enthusiasts, the day begins with family activities ranging from rock climbing and scavenger hunts to the REI-sponsored PEAK program teaching outdoor ethics to kids.

Outdoor experts will present clinics throughout the afternoon on topics including “Rock Climbing Leader Rescue,” “Ski Touring in Europe,” “How to Use Your GPS,” “Snowshoe 101,” “Ski Waxing,” “Winter First Aid,” “Alpine Rescue” and “Nature Photography.”

Aron Ralston, author of “Between a Rock and a Hard Place,” will present the evening keynote address.

Happy hour and a “Taste of the Mountains” dinner will include Himalayan cuisine from Sherpas Restaurant in Boulder. Proceeds from the event — including a silent auction — benefit the CMC’s Youth Education Program.
