PUEBLO, Colo.—Colorado Lottery officials say a single mother who was worried about losing her home to foreclosure was the winner of the Lotto drawing Wednesday for $9 million.
Fifty-year-old Gloria Aguda of Fountain plans to receive a lump sum of $4.5 million.
Aguda moved to the U.S. from the Philippines as a teenager. She was left jobless by a layoff two years ago and has been studying to become a medical assistant.
She plans to use the prize money to pay off bills and to support her family, including a brother in the Philippines who is partially blind.
The money also might be used for travel and so her two sons can finish college.
