DENVER—A former state tax supervisor has pleaded not guilty to charges of stealing $11.1 million in taxpayer money by funneling unclaimed tax refunds into accounts set up by her boyfriend.
Michelle Cawthra entered her plea Thursday. She and her boyfriend, Hysear Randell, both face 92 counts including theft and embezzlement.
Randell hasn’t entered a plea. His next court appearance is scheduled for January 10th.
Randell’s wife, Trudy Randell, has also been arrested on charges of setting up some of the accounts used in the alleged scheme.
