COLOMBO, Sri Lanka — Government troops fought gun battles with separatist Tamil Tiger rebels across Sri Lanka’s northern front lines Saturday, leaving 24 guerrillas and three soldiers dead and dozens injured, the military said.
Army troops destroyed a rebel bunker in the northern Mannar district, southwest of rebel-held territory, killing 13 rebels and wounding 47, an officer at the Defense Ministry’s media center said on condition of anonymity.
The battle killed three soldiers and wounded 14, he said.
