United Airlines mechanics may vote on whether to switch to representation by the Teamsters in a move the union said could thwart the carrier’s plan to sell its maintenance unit.
The International Brotherhood of Teamsters said in a statement that it asked the National Mediation Board today for a vote by mechanics at Chicago-based United. The vote may come in the next six weeks, the union said.
The workers are now represented by the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association.
