James Belcher, a former partner in Denver-based Holland & Hart, settled a lawsuit with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission over his buying shares of Western Gas Resources Inc. days before its acquisition by Anadarko Petroleum Corp.
Belcher settled the case for $32,245, he said Monday in court papers. The Cheyenne-based attorney bought 800 shares of Denver-based Western Gas, a client, before the announcement of its acquisition by Anadarko for $5.2 billion. Belcher knew of the deal from his work at the firm, the SEC said.
Belche quit in October because of the SEC investigation, Holland & Hart said in a statement.
