The suspect in a multiple shooting that left one man dead in LoDo last month has surrendered to U.S. marshals in Mexico City.

Anthony Chavez, 25, is accused of killing Theodore “Ted” Padilla and wounding six others outside the Hush nightclub early on the morning of Nov. 4. Police say he fired on a crowd on the sidewalk outside the club at Blake and Market streets at closing time.

Chavez was accompanied by U.S. marshals back to Denver on Monday and transferred to the custody of the Denver Police Department’s homicide unit.

Chavez coordinated the arrest through his attorney. “The marshals have the ability to cross the border to make the arrest. He is now at our city jail or our county jail,” said Denver police spokesman John White.

Police said a confrontation inside the Denver club earlier in the night prompted the shooting. Padilla had recognized some in the group of men linked to the gunman as former classmates at Denver West High School, a cousin of his said after the shooting. Family members have speculated that two expensive gold chains Padilla was wearing may have spurred the confrontation.
