MONTROSE, Colo.—A Delta woman is being ordered to spend 30 days in jail and serve two years of supervised probation for practicing midwifery without a license.
Montrose County Court Judge John Mitchel handed down the sentence to Theanna Sparrow, whom prosecutors said had been warned twice before not to act as a midwife.
Sparrow was present during the birth of a baby in Delta in December 2006. The baby died.
Midwives in Colorado are licensed by the state.
Court records indicate Sparrow is also being prohibited from acting as a midwife or assisting any childbirth unless she obtains a license.
The judge ordered Sparrow to report to a work release center by January 22nd.
